სითბო — სხეულის წარმომქნელი ნაწილაკების (ატომები, მოლეკულები) უწესრიგო (სითბური) მოძრაობის ფორმა. სითბოს რაოდენობითი ფორმაა სითბოს რაოდენობა, ესე იგი ენერგიის რაოდენობა, რომელსაც იღებს ან გასცემს სისტემა თბოგადაცემის პროცესში (როდესაც სისტემის მდგომარეობის მახასიეთებელი გარე პარამეტრები: მოცულობა და სხვ. უცვლელი რჩება). მუშაობის მსგავსად სითბოს რაოდენობა სისტემის შინაგანი ენერგიის ცვლილების ზომაა. თბოგადაცემის პროცესში სისტემის შინაგანი ენერგია იცვლება თავისი მოლეკულებისა და გარემომცველ სხეულთა მოლეკულების უშუალო ურთიერთქმედების (დაჯახების) შედეგად.

განსხვავებით შინაგანი ენერგიისგან, რომელიც მდგომარეობის მახასიეთებელი ცალსახა ფუნქციაა, სითბოს რაოდენობა (ფიზიკურ პროცესებში შინაგანი ენერგიის ცვლილების ერთ-ერთი მდგენელია) არ შეიძლება წარმოდგინდეს როგორც მდგომარეობის პარამეტრების რომელიმე ფუნქციის მნიშვნელობათა სხვაობა. სისტემისათვის გადაცემული სითბოს რაოდენობა, ისევე როგორც მუშაობა, დამოკიდებულია იმაზე, თუ რა გზით გადადის სისტემა საწყისი მდგომარეობიდან საბოლოო მდგომარეობაში.
