ზაბელი დედოფალი ორი ძმის რუბენ II-ისა და მლეჰის მმართველობის შემდეგ გახდა[5]. სახელმწიფო ინტერესების გამო იძულებით გაათხოვეს ჰეთუმ I-ზე, დიდი ხნის განმავლობაში ზაბელი მასთან ცხოვრებაზეც კი უარს ამბობდა, თუმცა საბოლოოდ კილიკიის სომეხთა სამეფოს მმართველი ჰეთუმ I გახდა და ახალ ჰეთუმიანების დინასტიას დაუდო სათავე.
